Jiapei Chen

Graduate student (BMS program)

American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellow (2019-present)

I majored in Bioengineering and minored in Neuroscience at MIT as an undergraduate, and have since been interested in brain development. At MIT, I worked with Dr. Kwanghun Chung on developing new imaging techniques for brain tissue, including tissue clearing and expansion microscopy. Since joining the Huang Lab at UCSF, I've shifted my research focus to microglia, the resident immune cell in the brain. I'm interested in learning how microglia facilitate brain development, or in the case of brain injury, deter proper neurodevelopment. In my spare time, I like traveling, going to concerts, and trying out new restaurants.
